The exchange carries on!

Fourth day of the project, last day before the final performance. All the activities of the day and sessions were focused on cleaning and improving the final details of the performance. The first part of the morning was used to practice different warming up exercises focused on mobility, coordination and promote an active participation of youngters. It was also time to practice again the lyrics the song that will close the performance and ensure that participants knew it by heart. Once this was done, participants were divided in groups to share again in their languages the results of the previous days of the project and solve questions of participants concerning their tasks and what to do on the next day in Logroño.

After that, all the team was distributed along the main street of Ezcaray in order to complete a general rehearsal of the performance. It was a very useful activity to see how it would look like and introduce improvements. It was also a very interesting activity for the villagers of Ezcaray who went out of their houses to enjoy the spectacle. The lunch took place on the swimming pool on which participants enjoying a relaxing afternoon and reduce their stress before the premier.

The afternoon and working day was closed with a general assembly to leave clear all the work and role of each person towards the final project performance that would take place in Logroño.

Before dinner and during their free time, some participants of the group took part in an original simulation and a multicultural role play game about conflict resolution, assertive communication and anger management on which they learnt different moral lessons. All was closed with a brotherhood dinner to gather together and share the learning outcomes of the participants.

Another day in Interculturality Reloaded

The session started with group meetings on which participants were divided according to their role on the performance and work on its music, make up decissions, talk about the costumes, etc. After that, they were invited to share their thoughts about the day before. They were also explained the logistics of the final performance. Once all was checked, the group made a general open air rehearsal of the final performance. The aim was to put in practice all that was learnt in previous days and have a first contact with the audience: the citizens of Ezcaray. To obtain this feedback, youth leaders interviewed the people who observed the performance in order to detect potential improvements on it. A group assembly was also done to put in common all the progress made up to this point.

After the successful morning, it was time to evaluate the project. To do that, participants discussed and measured different issues related to the exchange and its facilities: food, toilets, cabins, leaders support, participation, etc. The results were shared among participatns to make all as better as possible.

The day was closed with one of the most appreciated activities of the project by participants: The intercultural night!!! It was divided in two parts. On the first one, each delegation prepared several tables with food from each country that was explained and tasted by all at the end of the night. On the second one, participants exposed their own culture by using mimic, theatre and traditional dances prepared by them during this afternoon. The activity took till midnight full of joy and fun.

 

Second day of activities of Interculturality Reloaded

After some games to wake up, participants have made different exercises to share "movement verbs" that could be used during the final performance of the project and that could allow them to give their best and show their main abilities on the theatre field. Once that was done, they have occupied all the working space to practice different ways of contact improvisation. Moreover, participants had time to work on national teams in order to check the space and route to be used during the project performace and discuss with their leaders how to work on them.

Besides that and different parallel exercises and meetings between participants and leaders, an assembly with all the participants has taken place to share the morning results. This part of the day was closed by practicing again the song “Imagine” of John Lennon (Song that will be used as base of the project performance).

Once participants haved reflected on the previous issues, they met again to work one more time on contact improvisation techniques and answer as a group the question: "What do we want to tell?". To give more power to the final performance, participants have received umbrellas with different colors that will be a complement of their dance and choreography. The same techniques done during the morning, were repeated with the umbrellas. They have tried new roles such as moving, greeting or waving. After giving these roles to participants, the group went to the village centre of Ezcaray. In it´s main square, they made a main rehearsal of the performance with public and interacting with the villagers.

At night, several videos were showed on the seminar room of the hostel about contact improvisation to motivate and inspire participants for the next workshops. 

Out of this hard work, participants have also used their free time to get to know about new cultures and acrobatic movements exchanged among them.

First day of "Interculturality Reloaded"

To begin the day, participants have made several name games and ice-breakers to get to know each other and promote a team spirit. After that, the rules of the project facilities were showed to participants and a task was given to them: to create their own rules. These rules were discussed among all, agreed and written in big papers for the rest of week. It was also time to implement the initial evaluation of the project that allowed participants to share their fears, strengths and expectations by using color papers.

After lunch, participants shared the work made before the exchange on each partner country by them (in national groups) and practiced what an encounter is. They have also learnt about the psycho-magic of Jodorowski focused on changing people´s point of view concerning everyday life and open their minds. The main idea was to show through all these actions the importance of using theatre techniques as a way to promote the social change.

Furthermore, they have decided during the previous process to use the song of “Imagine” (John Lennon) to answer pedestrians when doing the final performance of the project. They have even practiced shortly the song and tried to learn it by heart. 

In the afternoon, participants discovered different movements for interaction obtained from their work done on their countries such as rolling, sliding and using the floor and the sky as elements of the space. The day was closed with a team reflection and leaders meeting about the potential programme of the final performance taking into account the day results.

"Interculturality Reloaded" is a European youth exchange that will take place from the 15th to the 22nd of August in Ezcaray (La Rioja, Spain) and will involve 45 young people and youth leaders from four partner organisations: ON&OFF (Spain, coordinator), International Center for Development of Education and Training (Bulgaria), Calypso (Italy) and IFALL (Sweden). Participants from these countries will work together using theatre as main tool for intercultural understanding and reflection. The main aim of this project funded under the Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ programme will be to provide to young participants a framework to explore different questions related to the main issue of the exchange and to show them the importance of their role as citizens and on the mutual understanding of the European cultures. Using dramatic methodologies and non-formal activities, participants will discover how their cultural differences can become learning opportunities. They will explore together those cultural facts that they have in common or are different, and will reflect on the stereotypes, labels or prejudices that they could have about the countries involved on the project. Thanks to the use of the “dramatic game”, improvisations, debates or role playing, participants will share their experiences and realize about the different cultural facts of their home countries. According to this, the project will achieve a mutual understanding through a common aim: make questions and find the answers together. Besides this, the exchange will offer constant interactive activities between the young participants thanks to mixed group tasks, energizers, open air games and other methodologies related to the theatre field. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity of discovering the culture of the partner countries thanks to cultural workshops or different touristic visits. To disseminate the results of the project, participants will also implement at its end a public performance on the capital city of La Rioja (Logroño) that will be designed by all of them during the exchange.
